Only one third of the fish consumed in our country is from the native Black Sea coast. The only entirely Bulgarian product is turbot.

70% of horse mackerel in sea traps is imported. He, along with sea bass and bream come from our southern neighbors. Seafood is imported from Turkey, Greece and Norway. Mackerel and hake come from Norway again. The cheap pangasius comes from distant Vietnam.

The Black Sea Sunrise Fishermen's Association explained that the reason for the huge amount of imported products is the shortage. Bulgarian fishermen take out goods that immediately go to restaurants by the sea and are extremely insufficient. Therefore, imports are many times higher than domestic production. Today, Bulgarian fishermen catch mullet in the north, and soon passages of black grouse and horse mackerel are expected. In the south, it relies mainly on sprats.

Prices of fish products have not risen, especially during the summer season. Anchovies and sprats are sold at BGN 3 per kilogram, while chamomile is at twice the price.

Mullet varies from BGN 3.50 to BGN 5 per kilogram, mackerel for BGN 5.50 and horse mackerel for BGN 6. Higher prices presumably keep the shark - BGN 10, the black grouse - BGN 14, the sea bass and the bream - for BGN 10, as well as the lefer - for BGN 18. The turbot is again the most expensive, with a price of BGN 28 per kilogram.
