Butter in Europe is running out. The reason is the sharp increase in world demand.
Demand for oil in Europe has jumped sharply, leading to an almost doubling of the wholesale price of butter in Europe. Consumers are also forced to pay more - retail prices jumped by almost 20% in June compared to the previous year.
The situation was described as a major crisis by the Federation of Entrepreneurs of La Boulangerie, which represents French bakers.
From the rising value of butter follows a sharp rise in the prices of croissants, tartas and brioches, for the production of which the product is needed.
The price of butter has never been stable. However, its level is currently the highest ever reached. The shortage of oil is already felt and by the end of the year we may face a serious problem, such as the total lack of the product.
Oil prices are rising for several reasons. The main one is the increasing consumption. This is due to greater demand from countries such as China. Thus, production in Europe is melting rapidly.
The trend is somewhat positive. Global oil consumption has risen after years of steady decline. In the last few years, consumers have replaced the product with substitutes such as margarine and others.
