On holidays we usually overdo it - most often we eat a lot, and heavy and greasy food. Alcohol is also a common companion at the table. All this puts a strain on the liver and the body as a whole. And if you think that a few days after the holidays you will cleanse yourself with tea and fruit, you can just try to reduce the amount of food and drink during the holidays.

In case this year the good wish was not enough and you have not managed to limit the consumption of the various delicacies from the table, take advantage of plan A - purify your body. The easiest way to do this is to completely eliminate alcohol and fatty foods - focus more on vegetables and fruits, add plenty of dairy products.

And while we are trying to solve the problem of excessive consumption of drinks and food by simply reducing their quantity, China is looking for a more interesting way. Scientists want alcohol to be not just less harmful to the liver, but even beneficial. The Chinese recall that too much alcohol consumes leads to fat accumulation and liver damage.

This, in turn, can lead to various diseases, including cancer. Research by Chinese scientists is still being conducted only on laboratory mice, but there are already encouraging results. At least that's what project leader Professor Chen says.

Experts have found that the use of a specific gene, PPP1r3G, actually converts the tested alcohol into glycogen, not fat. Glycogen retains energy but is not stored in the abdomen, adds Professor Chen.

The hope is that such an invention can help and scientists can develop a new type of drug. They will be based on alcohol and through them will reduce the negative impact of all these drinks on the human body.

The only problem may be the production of PPP1r3G in the human body.

However, scientists believe that this will not actually be a particularly serious obstacle, because such a drug could be invented. It will stimulate the production of the unique gene in the human body.

The research is the work of experts from the Food Institute at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
