As much as we love chocolate, there is always a voice in our mind that says: Stop, it is bad for your health. However, according to a new study, we can now ignore this inner voice with a clear conscience, because a team of scientists from the Harvard School of Public Health claims that cocoa flavor is good for the heart.

Usually when we reach for chocolate, we start thinking about weight, sugar and all sorts of other considerations. However, scientists are adamant - moderate consumption of confectionery reduces the risk of atrial fibrillation.

Atrial fibrillation is an irregular heartbeat that is often characterized by a fast heartbeat. It can lead to poor blood flow, followed by stroke, brain failure and even death if left untreated. The most common symptoms of tremor include palpitations, fatigue and shortness of breath.

In the last few years, chocolate, especially dark chocolate, has won some praise, mainly due to the presence of antioxidants such as flavonoids and polyphenols that help the heart.

To prove that the benefits far outweigh the harms, British researchers analyzed data from more than 55,000 participants between the ages of 50 and 64.

Participants were allowed to consume a certain amount of chocolate each week, each serving being 30 grams. They were not asked to specify what type of chocolate they ate. At the beginning of the study, all participants received information about the risk factors of chocolate.

The analysis of the data showed that the frequency of blinking is lower in people who consume chocolate regularly, compared to individuals whose intake of chocolate is less than 30 grams per week.

The results are similar for both men and women, but the amount of chocolate consumed varies. The positive effect is strongest when women consume 100 grams of chocolate per week, and men it is 150 grams.

Researchers have also found that dark chocolate, which is suitable for breakfast, has the most health benefits. It satisfies hunger and is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, which are known to increase metabolism and burn fat.
