Can you imagine a substance that protects against cancer, helps in its treatment, kills bacteria, eliminates inflammation, reduces damage to the cardiovascular system, and is also found in cheap and tasty foods? No need to imagine it - it exists! His name? Sulforaphane!

This infinitely useful substance is a powerful antioxidant from the group of isothiocyanates, solid concentrations of which are found in broccoli, cauliflower and all cruciferous vegetables. If they are not to your taste - there are pills in pharmacies, but what are a few bites of vegetables in the name of so many health benefits?

What exactly are the benefits of sulforaphane?

Well - huge! Especially at such a price! The results of the research are definite - cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage and all their "cousins" reduce the risk of cancer - especially colon and prostate cancer. What caused this? That's right - on sulforaphane!! According to scientific publications (for example in Cancer Letters from October 2008), sulforaphane blocks the action of a group of liver enzymes that convert nitrosamines into active carcinogens. Nitrosamines, on the other hand, are formed by the reaction of nitrites with secondary amines; nitrites, in turn, are found in sausages, bacon and any ready-to-eat meat products intended for permanent storage. That is - the consumption of cruciferous vegetables neutralizes the carcinogenic effect of substances taken with other foods.

In addition, as an antioxidant, sulforaphane protects the gastric mucosa from the destructive effects of Helicobacter pylori - a gram-negative bacterium that inhabits the stomach and duodenum and is responsible for the appearance of peptic ulcer, gastritis and duodenitis. Some people tolerate H. pylori infections asymptomatically and without damage, but others experience the complications described above. In such cases, the intake of sulforaphane - in food or tablets - has a markedly positive effect, reducing the damage from inflammation, as well as its symptoms. There are also suggestions that H. pylori plays a role in the development of stomach cancer - which brings us back to

anti-cancer properties of sulforaphane

In addition to blocking enzymes that unlock the carcinogenic potential of certain substances, the miraculous sulforaphane inhibits the growth of pre-existing cancer cells - confirmed by more than five independent clinical trials by 2010.

The icing on the cake, however, is the discovery that

sulforaphane selectively kills cancer cells without affecting healthy -

something that cannot be said about conventional methods such as radiation therapy and chemotherapy. This finding leads researchers to place high hopes on the substance as a breakthrough in the treatment of insidious disease.

After such news, probably any other useful properties of any substance will be slightly lost - a breakthrough in cancer treatment is an achievement that overshadows almost everything. It should not be forgotten, however

The leading cause of death in the modern world is cardiovascular disease,

not cancer. And, as you can guess, sulforaphane performs brilliantly there too!

Although not so fanatical, studies conducted in parallel with those on the effects of sulforaphane on cancer reported that the substance prevented heart damage in laboratory rats (Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, January, 2008), and later Clinical trials have evaluated the intake of sulforaphane as having a beneficial effect on the general health of the person.
