According to the latest data, one third of Bulgarian children are already overweight. Our menu very rarely includes fish and milk, but on the other hand, the patties are overdone.

The data also show that Bulgarians move and exercise less and less, which increases the incidence of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Statistics show that 40% of men and 30% of women in our country have exceeded the norms of healthy weight, and every fourth Bulgarian is obese.

On the other hand, the chairman of the Bulgarian Association for the Study of Obesity, Associate Professor Svetoslav Handjiev, claims that the main culprit for obese Bulgarian children - the pie, is not harmful and is even healthy.

The associate professor is based on a study, according to which the consumption of patties with butter and cheese from one to two times a week is very useful.

Handjiev said he wanted to rehabilitate the pie's reputation after it was excluded from the prescription of school chairs and kindergartens.

According to the chairman of the Bulgarian Association for the Study of Obesity, the consumption of patties is necessary because it is through them that Bulgarians get the dairy products they need.

Associate Professor Handjiev adds that in the last 13 years the consumption of cheese, butter, cream and yellow cheese in our country has fallen sharply, and children in Karzhali and Varna take these products only through patties.

The data show that Bulgarians avoid dairy products, but instead have started consuming more and more popcorn, saltines and chips. Currently, every Bulgarian eats between 70 and 80 grams of milk a day.

According to European studies, Bulgaria ranks sixth in overweight and overweight children, and in Bulgaria every fourth Bulgarian is at risk of obesity.

One in two Europeans is overweight, and 23% of the Old Continent's population is obese. The percentage of overweight children in Europe is 40.
