Has it ever happened to you that when you smell the pleasant aroma of a freshly cooked dish, it instantly whets your appetite? It was believed that the aroma increases appetite, which in turn leads to weight gain.

However, the long-term effects of culinary flavors can lead to weight loss, as interest in food is lost. This conclusion was reached by olfactory experts from Chicago.

The smell of food can convince the brain that you have already eaten. If the brain receives a signal of oversaturation, then the feeling of hunger is blunted.

An experiment was conducted in which overweight volunteers participated. They were offered before a meal or when they felt the urge to eat, to first smell the aroma of green apple, mint or banana from a special bottle.

Over time, all volunteers lost a few pounds. It turned out that after inhaling the aroma, their appetite dropped sharply, which reduced the amount of food they usually ate.

In another experiment with obese people, they received a dish sprinkled with crystals smelling of cheddar cheese, raspberries, mint and cocoa. The results were even more impressive - in half a year 92 volunteers lost an average of 15 kg.

In fact, inhaling culinary aromas initially stimulates the appetite. However, if it lasts a long time, the exact opposite effect is achieved.

Appetite killers can be not only food, but also other flavors. Scientists from Chicago give some recommendations to people who have decided to go on a fragrant diet.

- Get used to cooking less food, but it has a strong aroma.

- Do not eat cold dishes, but warm them so that their aroma reaches your brain faster.

- Chew slowly. This will allow you to better smell the dish.

- If you are addicted to sweets, smell vanilla more often. Its aroma has been proven to repel the craving for sweets.

- Place a bouquet of strong-smelling flowers on the table. Before reaching for food, inhale their aroma several times.

- Keep jars of different spices on the table. Make it a habit before you start eating, be sure to smell one or another jar.
