If you drink milk regularly, the drink will help you lose weight. However, you need to be a little more patient, as the results will not come until two years, reports "Science daily".
The publication refers to an Israeli study. Researchers at Ben Gurion University have found that people who drink two glasses of milk a day lose more weight in two years than those who do not focus on dairy products.
Two glasses of milk provide the body with 580 mg of calcium per day. Volunteers who drank for 6 months lost 6 kilograms in two years. Others who consumed a smaller amount of calcium (about 150 mg) - by 3.5 kg.
Israeli scientists also claim that in addition to calcium, the level of vitamin D also affects weight loss. Milk contributes to the synthesis of this vitamin.
The study involved more than 300 overweight men and women aged 40 to 65 years. For two years they followed different diets. Some have gone on low-fat diets, others on Mediterranean or low-carb diets.
Regardless of which diet they used, milk fans had the best results.
The study by Israeli scientists refutes previous ones made by their American counterparts. In 2008, an analysis by the University of North Carolina showed that neither milk consumption nor calcium alone helped to lose weight.
The experts had examined 49 clinical trials of the properties of dairy products, conducted from 1966 to 2007. Of these, 41 studies had not shown any positive effect of milk in the fight against weight.
