According to the new changes in Ordinance 26, the quantities for direct sale of products from the farms will be doubled. The changes have been approved by the European Commission and remain to be published in the State Gazette.
The new changes state that milk intended for direct sale by farmers to end-users can travel for a maximum of two hours to the stand where it will be offered.
Ordinance 26 also provides for an increase in the amount of food that can be sold directly from their producers.
For raw cow's milk, the amount has doubled, and producers themselves can now offer up to 150,000 kilograms a year. There is also an increase for sheep's, goat's and buffalo's milk.
After the introduction of the changes, farmers will be able to offer up to 60% of their monthly milk yield, instead of 35%, as it was before.
For farmers keeping more than 50 animals, the quantity allowed for direct sale will be 50% of the milk produced.
The weekly number of eggs sold directly to the consumer also jumps from 500 to 1,000.
In direct sales, farmers are not obliged to mark the eggs, as they do when they sell them in stores.
After the introduction of the changes, the Bulgarian beekeepers will be able to sell directly to the customers not only honey, but also beeswax, royal jelly and other bee products.
The amount of fish and game that can be offered to the end user will also increase. However, in order to sell, they must have an object that is registered with the Food Agency.
The ordinance states that such sites may be farms, mobile dairies or mobile shop windows, which are under the supervision of inspectors from the Food Agency.
The promulgation of Ordinance 26 was among the main requirements of the Bulgarian agricultural producers, who for years insisted on relief in offering their products.
The ordinance is expected to be promulgated by the end of May, and the changes will be in force in June.
