Nearly 30 percent of Bulgarians cannot buy basic foodstuffs, and 35 percent of Bulgarians cannot afford meat, according to a study by the Trend research center commissioned by the 24 Chasa newspaper.
Surveys also show that about 30 percent of Bulgarians do not consume fruit because they set their price as too high, 24% of our compatriots miss vegetables in their menu, again setting their price as unaffordable.
Chocolate products and treats also turn out to be a luxury purchase for some of our people. 34 out of 100 people say they are deprived of sweets due to lack of money.
The greatest difficulties in buying the basic food products for every household are experienced by the elderly over 60 years of age.
The survey concludes that only 32% of Bulgarians are satisfied with their standard of living. The majority of respondents, 40%, indicated the answer rather does not satisfy me, and 23% are in the position does not satisfy me at all.
The results also show that 70% of our people do not have any money saved and in a crisis such as dismissal they cannot count on a secure income. 20% say they save every month, and 10% have chosen to refrain from answering.
For a good standard of living, the study determines that a monthly income of between BGN 1,000 and 2,000 is needed.
