Those entering the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria will no longer be able to import pork for personal use.
The ban was imposed by order of the executive director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA). The measure was taken because of the disease spreading to pigs - African plague.
In our northern neighbor, Romania, there are already more than ninety outbreaks of the disease, which is highly morbid and easily spread.
According to the BFSA, people also contribute to the spread of African plague by transporting food containing porkabout.
That is why it is forbidden to import pork delicacies in Bulgaria for personal consumption not only across the border with Romania, but also from other neighboring countries. Even pork sandwiches will no longer be allowed.
Imports of meat foods will be closely monitored. Any suspicious sausages that are not labeled will also be confiscated.
According to experts, the African plague does not endanger human life. However, it is very dangerous for livestock.
