The lemons in Lidl have been treated with poisonous chemicals and their peels are not suitable for use. The discovery was made by a vigilant buyer who took the trouble to pay attention to what is written on the lemon network, bought by the retail chain and alerted about his discovery on social networks.

The photo, uploaded on the social network Facebook by Adi Tsanova, clearly shows that the lemons offered by the Lidl retail chain have been pre-treated with chemicals to ensure their durability and good commercial appearance for a longer period.

These are the chemicals imazalil, thiabendazole, propiconazole and others. These chemicals, in particular imazilil, penetrate the skin and even reach the inside of the fruit. They are extremely poisonous, irritate the skin and can cause tears in the eyes, so a special quarantine period has been introduced after treatment with it, which must be observed.

But even after this quarantine period, the peel of citrus fruits (lemons, oranges, pomelo, grapefruit) should not be consumed because it is poisonous and dangerous to health. It is also recommended that the fruit be thoroughly washed with warm water and soap before consumption.

It is important to note that practically all citrus fruits that are imported and sold in our country are treated with these chemicals dangerous to human health. Both those in the markets and those in the big food chains.

This practice is not a secret for the responsible factors, such as the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, which inspects them, because the presence of these chemicals is duly noted on all pallets of bananas, oranges, tangerines and others.

But when these fruits are cut and sold at retail, no one bothers to inform buyers who enjoy cheap and good-looking fruits and buy products that are dangerous to health.

This leads to the absurd situation in which those traders who offer complete information about the origin and quality of the goods they offer risk being publicly lynched for poisoning their customers. While others, who conveniently withhold this important health information, continue to work undisturbed by anyone.

Experts strongly advise all domestic consumers to pay attention to what is written on the labels of the products they buy. They are also advised to be especially careful when using citrus peels and to avoid it if possible, because there are no guarantees for the quality of the fruit.

In such cases, it is advisable to buy organic fruit, the price of which is higher, but guaranteed not to be treated with chemicals aimed at maintaining their good appearance.
