The European Food Safety Authority has published a report claiming that consuming more than four coffees a day is seriously detrimental to human health, with pregnant women and teenagers being the most affected by excessive caffeine intake.
The study was commissioned by the European Commission to see what caffeine use is in Europe. Experts have found that the daily intake of caffeine in the body of an adult should not exceed 400 milligrams. Up to this amount it is useful and invigorating.
Taking caffeine from any source up to 400 mg a day does not increase health concerns in healthy adults in the general population, except in pregnant women, the report said.
However, experts say that even when taking such an amount there is little danger to humans. According to them, the best option is to take up to three coffee daily.
However, the biggest concern for health authorities in Europe is not coffee, but energy drinks containing caffeine. Studies show that their consumption among young people has increased by 70 percent in just five years.
According to the data, 68 percent of young people between the ages of 10 and 18 regularly consume energy drinks, and 12 percent of them are serious consumers.
A study of the top five most purchased similar products on the market showed that caffeine in them ranged between 70 mg per liter to significantly higher 400 mg per liter.
The report of the European Food Safety Authority shows that the most addicted to caffeine are in Denmark, where 33 percent of the population overdoses on caffeine. Immediately after the Scandinavians are the Netherlands with 17. 6 percent and Germany with 14. 6 percent.
Excess caffeine leads to severe consequences for the body. According to experts, daily intake of more than 400 mg can cause nervous excitement, insomnia, palpitations or heart skipping / extrapolation / in some people.
