According to official information of the Union of Brewers in Bulgaria, the labels of the native beer brands will soon be different. The aim is for consumers to be aware of the nutritional value of their favorite beer brands.
The management of the branch organization explains that the Bulgarian laws currently oblige the brewing companies to report only the alcohol content in the drinks. However, in order to be more familiar and therefore more satisfied, consumers will be informed about the amount of calories they consume with the consumption of a beer.
The new labels will report in addition to calories and the content of fat, carbohydrates, protein and salt in a bottle of beer. Domestic producers hope that in this way consumers will understand that Bulgarian beer brands are not more caloric than world ones.
The management of the Union of Brewers announces that the beer market in Bulgaria is extremely dynamic. For the first six months of the year, six new brands of beer have appeared on the stands, and as many as 25 have completely changed their packaging. There is also an increase in demand for plastic bottles.
Compared to many other European countries beer in Bulgaria it is one of the most preferred drinks, being overtaken only by water and some soft drinks.
For the past 2014, more than five million and two hundred liters of beer have been tested in the country, and the results cover those of the previous year. Most of the sparkling beer per capita was drunk in Sofia, Varna, Ruse and Montana. Statistics show that more beer is drunk in cities than in villages.
It is an interesting fact that for as many as 78% of Bulgarians beer is the preferred alcoholic beverage. As expected, men drink more sparkling beer than women. Due to the high temperatures, summer is the strongest season for the brewing industry, and during the warm months they drink almost 65 percent of all beer consumed during the year.
The industry expects new types of beer to appear on the market by the end of the year. In addition to elderberry beer, which is produced only in Bulgaria, einkorn beer is expected to find its place on the stands.
