The calories of each food must now be indicated on the food labels. For the time being, the requirement has been accepted voluntarily.

The measure for declaring the nutritional value of each product in the store came into force. From December 13, the labels of the products, in addition to other information, must also contain their caloric value.

The amendment was adopted in the European Union by Regulation 1169 of 2011. It aims to facilitate consumer choice by giving them accurate information about the product.

In order to prepare and meet the requirements, all companies received a grace period from Brussels, which has already expired.

Among the mandatory changes that had to be reflected on the labels was the font size. It was changed two years ago to not less than 1.2 mm or 0.9 mm for packages smaller than 80 sq. Cm.

The inclusion of the allergens contained in the ingredients was also included in this change. As of December 13 this year, nutrition information on: energy value, fats, saturated fatty acids, carbohydrates, sugars, proteins and salt is already declared on the labels.

Until now, such a requirement existed only for products with nutritional and health claims or with claims for a significant amount of vitamins and minerals.
