A harvest of about 7,000 tons of cherries is expected in the Kyustendil region this season, the director of the Institute of Agriculture, Professor Dimitar Domozetov, told Darik.
According to him, the hail did not have a detrimental effect on the cherry production in the area. Domozetov also explained that a bigger problem would occur if heavy rains continue to be observed between June 10th and 15th, because then the harvested fruits can be damaged.
The director of the Institute of Agriculture reminded that this spring there was a wonderful flowering of cherries all over Bulgaria. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the tie.
If 35 percent of the flowers tie, it means that the tie is normal, Domozetov explained. He added that at the moment the tie is about 30-32 percent.
The expert added that this phenomenon is observed due to rainfall in February and March. However, the results can also be encouraging. Domozetov revealed that in 2014, six thousand tons of cherries were harvested in the Kyustendil region. On the other hand, in 2013 the production amounted to nearly ten thousand tons.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Kyustendil has issued an order related to the upcoming campaign to buy cherries. It lists all the requirements that affect the picking, buying and protection of the cherry crop.
Again, due to the upcoming campaign, it is necessary to indicate places for buying the juicy fruit. The mayors of the villages, as well as the Directorate of Economic Activities will deal with this.
Documents for opening such points will be able to be submitted from the beginning of next month, and this will happen only after paying the required fee.
It also turns out that the purchase of cherries can be done only after showing a document of ownership or lease of cherry orchards and when issuing a document under the Accounting Act.
It was also announced that the picking of cherries will take place from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm. The redemption, in turn, will take place from 9.00 am to 10.00 pm.
