Studies have proven the root cause of obesity, namely - low levels of vitamin D. It is especially about its subtype - vitamin D3.
Years ago, the link between high levels of vitamin D deficiency in obesity and cardiovascular disease, as well as type 2 diabetes, was demonstrated.
A new study has reported levels of vitamin D in obese and obese children. A number of studies have been conducted on eating habits, as well as tests to determine whether there is a link between vitamin D levels and markers of abnormal glucose metabolism and blood pressure. It is clear that low levels of vitamin D are significantly more prevalent in obese children.
It turns out that obese children with low levels of vitamin D also have a higher degree of insulin resistance. The very reason for this is still being sought, but the result is there - low levels of vitamin D may play a role in the development of type 2 diabetes.
The study involved 411 obese individuals and 87 controllers with normal body weight. Their levels of vitamin D, blood sugar levels, serum insulin, body mass index and blood pressure were measured.
Factors such as general eating habits, as well as the daily intake of carbonated drinks, natural juices and milk, their average daily consumption of fruits and vegetables, and whether they regularly skip breakfast are also reported.
The worst precondition for such consequences are completely bad eating habits. Skipping breakfast and increased intake of carbonated soft drinks and canned fruit juices with added sugar are directly related to the low levels of vitamin D observed in obese children.
An appropriate approach and treatment to restore vitamin D levels in such cases is yet to be sought. Doctors believe that treatment with vitamin D in obesity has improved elements of children's condition, such as insulin resistance.
