It turns out that caramel cream is the favorite dessert of Bulgarians. At least this is shown by the study commissioned by one of the largest producers of confectionery in Bulgaria.
The survey showed that nearly half of Bulgarians are sworn lovers of sweets. 42 percent of respondents admitted that they like to eat sweets every day without a special reason.
The statistics also confirmed what we secretly suspected, namely - women consume much more sugar than their strong halves. In most surveyed households, a homemade cake is served at the table at least once a week.
The cake takes the honorable second place in the ranking of the most favorite dessert of Bulgarians. The bronze medal is awarded to the ubiquitous biscuit cake, which manages to displace baklava in the taste preferences of our people.
Apparently the memories of the terrible food in kindergartens, which was the norm at the end of socialism and the beginning of the transition to democracy, have had their say. A whole generation of Bulgarians turns their heads at the sight of a portion of sutliash.
Surprisingly, pumpkin, tulumbichki and cookies find a place in the ranking of the most unloved sweets by our people.
Cream caramel gained wide popularity in Bulgaria during socialism. At that time he was a frequent guest on the menu of school and office chairs. Middle-aged people also remember how it was served - in scratched-out aluminum piles for baking, still warm from the oven.
With the advent of democracy, the "totalitarian" dessert turned 180 degrees, literally. If you now sit in a restaurant and order a portion of aromatic caramel cream, it will be served chilled and turned with the caramel up in a beautiful plate. But the traditional taste, which captivates the hearts and stomachs of generations of Bulgarians, still remains unchanged.
Here is our favorite recipe for traditional caramel cream:
Necessary products: eggs - 6 pieces, sugar - 6 tablespoons, vanilla - 2 packs, fresh milk - 1 liter. You also need half a cup of sugar for caramelization.
Method of preparation: Beat the eggs well. Add the sugar, vanilla and pre-cooked milk, which we have cooled to 40 degrees. The products are mixed very well until the sugar is completely dissolved. If desired, you can strain the resulting mixture - so the cream is guaranteed to become smooth.
Pour the caramelized sugar into a dry container. Add 1 tbsp. water and leave over medium heat until the sugar has melted. Pour the caramel into the pre-prepared caramel cream containers. Spread the egg-milk mixture on top.
The bowls (molds) with caramel cream are baked in a water bath in a preheated oven at 160-170 degrees. The water should reach at least the middle of the molds and should not boil. If necessary, add more water. Baking time is about an hour.
The finished caramel cream is left to cool and consumed with friends, relatives or family. Enjoy!
