The latest statistics show that last winter the residents of the cities of Varna and Sofia drank the most beer. They dethroned the summer champions - Montana, who drank the most beer for the summer of 2013.

According to the analyzes, the biggest fans of the amber liquid are the age group from 30 to 39 years.

Last year, the month in which the drink was bought the most was June. Then the Bulgarians consumed ten beers on average per month. In September, the Bulgarian had eight beers for the whole month, and in December - five beers.

In the summer of 2013, Montana became the city with the most beer. The executive director of the Union of Brewers in Bulgaria, Ivana Radomirova, added that the northwestern city is followed by Ruse and Burgas.

Studies also show that Bulgarians prefer to drink the sparkling drink in their homes rather than in restaurants. Last year, most plastic beer packages were bought.

Plastic packaging occupies 60% of the market share. They are followed by glass beer bottles, which account for 25.5% of beer sold, and cans, which account for only 8.5%.

"For another year, these data show that there is a shift in sales from glass bottles to plastic, which confirms the conclusions that sales in the so-called cold market are declining at the expense of sales for consumption at home," Radomirova explained.

According to estimates, in 2012 the revenues from sales of beer in pubs and other establishments were 30% of the total turnover, and sales of beer were 1% less.

For comparison, in Italy and Portugal the income in the restaurants is about 60%.

The latest results show that Bulgaria ranks 13th in beer sales in the European Union. The average consumption for Europe is 70 liters per capita, and in Bulgaria everyone drinks an average of 73 liters of beer.

Champions in beer consumption for the Czechs, who drink 148 liters per year.
