During the massive inspections of the BFSA around the Easter holidays, nearly a ton of unfit for sale food was detained. The most confiscated goods were lamb cuts and lamb.
During the inspections, inspectors from the Food Safety Agency banned the sale of 645,414 kilograms of food, 100 eggs, 2 liters of beer, 4 kilograms of lamb, 24.5 kilograms of lamb offal, 1.8 kilograms of lamb intestines, 257,724 kilograms of frozen lamb cuts and 53 Easter cakes.
The biggest violations were with lamb. Traditionally, the BFSA also targeted eggs and Easter cakes this Easter. Some of them were withdrawn from the market due to unclear origins and labeling omissions.
The Easter inspections began on March 30 and lasted until April 13. 3861 sites throughout the country were inspected.
The most common violation that traders committed was offering expired food. Improper food labeling, sale of meat and milk in unregulated places and missing documents for the origin of food products have also been established.
And around these holidays were found traders who offered their goods in sites that are not registered under the Food Act.
Only from the slaughterhouse in Targovishte, 30 lambs were seized, which were intended for sale without the necessary identification marking. The lambs were sent for sanitary slaughter under the strict control of a commission of BFSA inspectors.
However, samples of the meat showed that it was fit for consumption and not dangerous to health. The lamb was donated to homes for the socially disadvantaged.
During the Easter inspections, a total of 202 prescriptions were issued, 50 acts for established administrative violation, and 2 commercial sites were temporarily suspended. Food chains, small shops and restaurants were inspected.
