Wine, especially red wine, is among the most consumed alcoholic beverages. This has been the case since time immemorial and continues to this day. It is no coincidence that the first grape grower is Noah from the Bible, but the truth is that no matter how old the wine is, it does not age in the least, but continues to be modern and intriguing. Especially autumn time, when the period of plucking the vines and preparing the wine itself comes. Here's what it's important to remember autumn time, if you are owner of a vineyard:
Autumn is the time when the grapes must be picked. Little is known about the fact that in Bulgaria the school starts only on September 15, and not on the 1st, precisely because grape harvest, which is attended by all family members. And as tiring as the grape harvest itself is, it has long been associated with high spirits, hearty food and music;
Once the grape harvest is over, it is very important that the grape pickers have decided in advance whether they will directly use the fruit to make wine, brandy or other beverages, or store it for later consumption or use.
In the latter case, it is important to know that the grapes are best stored when they are cut with part of the bunch and arranged in crates. Even in this case, however, remember that it is not a durable fruit. If you notice that there are rotten grains, throw them away immediately, because the others will start to rot as well.
But not only the grape harvest is important for the vineyard in the fall. This is the period during which new vines can be planted in place of the remaining fruitless vines. If you prefer this to happen in the spring, do not forget to rig the place of the vineyard.
Autumn is also a good season for fertilizing the soil. Although winter time the vines are dormant, they need the necessary nutrients to have a good harvest next year.
More capricious vines should be overwintered to avoid the risk of frost. This is done by removing them from the structure to which you have attached them and burying them in the soil. These stems, which are too long and cannot be buried, are wrapped in straw, autumn leaves or plain paper.
