The brand of fake olive oil is distributed in the trade network in our country. Although the manufacturers guarantee a real Italian taste of the product from the label, it turns out that this is far from the truth.

The olive oil is of the Farchioni brand and is widely available in the retail chains in our country. The price of a bottle of 700 milliliters is BGN 13, and according to the information on the label, the cold-pressed olive oil is made from high-quality olives.

The consumer Yanko Danev signaled about the fake product, the Plovdiv newspaper Maritsa reports. He found that in the refrigerator, olive oil does not thicken, as it should if it is made from high-quality olives.

I always keep olive oil in the refrigerator. I have taken from this brand several times already, but the last time it turned out to be an absolute fake.

It does not crystallize as usual, it is probably unrefined sunflower oil because it does not change its physical state - is Danev's comment.

The man has lived in Italy for many years and says he can only recognize quality olive oil by smell.

The case has already been notified to the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency and the Consumer Protection Commission.

Both organizations say that in order to prove with 100 percent certainty whether a particular olive oil is a fake, it must undergo a detailed analysis.

Such a test is not cheap at all and is performed only in authorized laboratories.

However, it is true that in a refrigerator or freezer the consistency of pure olive oil must change. At colder temperatures, olive oil should become cloudy and thick in just a few hours.

Marin Marinov from the Association of Vegetable Oil Producers commented that the quality of olive oil cannot be judged only by its type and aroma.

The expert himself came across a lot of imitations of olive oil, which managed to capture the true color and aroma of olive oil.
