Fifteen people from the Plovdiv village of Hrabrino and the town of Stamboliyski have been hospitalized after contracting trichinosis from eating pork.

It is possible that the number of patients will increase, because another 40 who have eaten the infected pork are currently being tested.

The infected are accommodated in the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Plovdiv, as the patients from Hrabrino are 10, and those from Stamboliyski - 5.

Around Christmas, patients in Hrabrino claimed to have eaten pork chops, and those infected with Stamboliiski explained that they had eaten sausages containing wild boar meat.

The infected claim to have eaten pork. They are not members of just one family. There are no small children or pregnant women among them, except for a 10-year-old girl and her 18-year-old brother.

So far, the condition of all those admitted is stable and there is no danger to their lives.

Trichinosis is a disease that is severe with bleeding and swelling and can lead to complications even after its active phase.

The hospital said that at the first symptoms of trichinosis, patients should seek medical attention immediately. In addition, experts warn not to eat untested meat.

Treatment of trichinosis is individual and can last from 10 days to two weeks or more. The Clinic has sent official notifications to the RHI and to the veterinary services for seizure of the remaining meat and products.

The mayor of the village of Hrabrino said there could be no talk of an epidemic in the village.

So far, there is no official announcement from the health authorities about the necessary prevention.

This incident happened only days after nearly 70 children from Sliven were poisoned in a school chair after eating soup and bread.

The regional directorate for food safety in the city inspected the food supplier, and the results of the samples taken by it will be released on Monday.

Some of the poisoned students have already been discharged after their state of severe dehydration has been controlled.
