The native harvest has proven itself on the market many times over the years, not only in quality but also in taste. Among the emblematic products for Bulgarian agriculture are our delicious apples and tomatoes.

From next year, however, culinary temptations such as apple strudel, apple pie, compote and apple jam will be made from imported fruit. The same fate will befall the lyutenitsa, the Shopska salad and the pickles, for which there will simply be no Bulgarian tomatoes.

Unfortunately, in 2015 the native apples and tomatoes are not expected to be present on the domestic market, fruit growers predict. It turns out that the funds for the industry have been reduced at the expense of animal husbandry.

This makes the Bulgarian harvest uncompetitive on the market, said Nikolay Kolev from the Union of Danube Fruit Growers, quoted by VsekidenKom.

According to the specialist, the Bulgarian harvest cannot fight the Polish one, which is a very serious competitor. It is clear that field apples are sold for 16 stotinki per kilogram, and a kilogram of potatoes costs 4 stotinki.

According to Kolev, some of the farmers have already lost hope and have undertaken the destruction of their orchards, planning to start another production.

Thus it becomes clear that from the next calendar year we will be able to choose from a rich variety of foreign crops, as the stalls will be flooded with imported fruits and vegetables, for which we can only guess under what conditions they are produced and what exactly they contain.

In other European countries, funds are provided for the number of trees, as well as for the area where fruits and vegetables are managed. In our country, things are different and finances not only do not bring profit, but are not even enough to cover the costs incurred, people in the industry complain.

Nikolay Kolev believes that the market share of the domestic harvest, which last year was only 2 percent of the domestic market, will soon fall to 0. According to him, from now on the Bulgarian will eat native fruits and vegetables only if he grows them himself.
