Corn oil is proving to be more valuable for health than the olive oil, which is said to be the most useful fat, reports Eurek Alert. Corn oil lowers cholesterol levels more successfully than cold-pressed olive oil, say researchers who conducted the study.

In fact, corn oil is also useful for the so-called. bad cholesterol and for general, explains study leader Dr. Kevin Mackie. Corn fat contains four times more plant sterols than cold-pressed olive oil - this is the main reason why it is indicated for the better choice.

Corn oil also contains a large amount of useful fatty acids, scientists explain. The specialists used 54 people for their research. Men and women were divided into two groups, not one group being given four tablespoons of olive oil a day along with healthy food, and the other group being given the same amount of corn oil.

Bad cholesterol levels in people who ate corn oil were reduced by about 10.5 percent, experts explain. For comparison - cold-pressed olive oil has lowered bad cholesterol by only 3.5 percent. As for total cholesterol, the results are again in favor of corn oil, experts explain - the percentages are 8.2 for corn oil and 1.8 for olive oil.

The well-known avocado is a great source of vitamins and minerals and, last but not least, can also lower bad cholesterol, Reuters reports. Research shows that just one avocado a day can lower bad cholesterol levels, even in people who are overweight.

The study is the work of scientists from Pennsylvania. However, this does not mean that people who eat one avocado every day will lower their cholesterol levels, scientists explain. The goal is for avocados to replace unhealthy fats in the diet, Pennsylvania experts explain.

For the study, researchers studied people between 21 and 70 years - a total of 45 people participated. Everyone is then given a different type of diet to lower cholesterol.
