The BRAT diet is not a diet for weight loss, as one would be mistaken. If you have stomach upsets, diarrhea or other stomach ailments, this is the most appropriate diet. We all throw ourselves into drugs when we get some of the aforementioned ailments, instead of using the natural resources that are all around us.
The diet is low in protein, which contributes to the easy intake and digestion of the products used. Like any diet, this one has pros and cons, but now we will look the positive aspects of the BRAT diet.
Studies show that when we combine bananas with diet, we can forget about diarrhea faster than if we don't add bananas. On the other hand, we all know that cereals are suitable for stomach irritation and diarrhea, but unlike beans, for example, rice is more easily absorbed by our body.
The BRAT diet consists of several main products:
- bananas;
- rice;
- apple puree;
- soup.
These foods are light and easy to digest, which is why they are believed to reduce stomach upsets and symptoms because the stomach does not have difficulty digesting them. The products offered in the diet contain starch, but on the other hand they are low in fiber, protein and fat. The lack of them contributes to the fact that they will not burden the digestion and will not irritate the stomach. You eat in the BRAT diet have a slight odor and weak taste, which does not allow nausea and vomiting.
Now let's briefly look at the ingredients of the diet separately:
1. Bananas - Bananas are an excellent source of fiber, which is easily soluble. The inclusion of bananas in everyday life and in the diet allows us to avoid constipation or other irritations of the stomach and intestines. Outside BRAT diet, bananas also help to lose weight because it is a filling food rich in vitamins and fiber.
2. Rice - the product that provides us with energy, lowers blood sugar levels and is the main product used in our daily lives, a source of vitamin B1. Rice is a product that stimulates metabolism and aids digestion, making it the perfect ingredient in the diet.
3. Apple puree - apples contain many antioxidants and vitamins, which favors and helps increase metabolism. In turn, apple puree contributes the same, but the puree is chosen for the diet because it is easier to digest. It promotes digestion and stomach function and is suitable for people suffering from disorders, bulimia and anorexia.
4. Soup - The soup actually consists of clear broth. Due to the liquid state, it does not burden the digestive system, which is why recommended for the BRAT diet.
To this diet we can include things that we all use for diarrhea - saltines, crackers, rusks, plain biscuits and the like. In addition to the familiar dry foods, we can add sweet potatoes, baked potatoes (without butter or any additives), chicken (but in small quantities), which can be baked or grilled. Only chicken is allowed because it does not contain fat and is pure (dry) meat. The drinks we can add are light teas (mint), water, apple juice.
The foods that are PROHIBITED for the BRAT diet are all kinds of dairy products - yogurt and milk, cheese, cheese, butter, etc. Besides them - products containing sugar (pastries, desserts), fatty foods (pork, fried foods), spicy foods, alcohol, coffee, carbonated beverages, artificial colors and preservatives.
