Jacques Pepin is one of the most famous and popular chefs in the United States - he is the author of many cookbooks, has published articles, is a host of famous TV shows related to cooking. His sense of humor and remarkable dexterity in the kitchen quickly made him very popular and loved by the audience.

He was born in 1935 in the French city of Bourg-en-Bresse. At the age of 12 he stopped studying and began helping his parents in the family restaurant, and a few years later (when he was 17) he went to Paris and cooked for General Charles de Gaulle.

He moved to the United States in 1959 and lives there with his wife, Gloria. His thirst for knowledge did not stop and when he moved to the United States, he decided to continue his education. He graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor's degree in general education, and also holds a master's degree in 18th-century French poetry.

When he settled in the United States, Pepin was offered a job as President John F. Kennedy's chef, but the French chef refused.

He then accepted another job offer - head of the hotel chain department Howard Johnson - remained in that position for a decade. This post helps him a lot professionally - he learns a lot about marketing, culinary chemistry, and American taste preferences.

Pepin suffered a serious car accident in 1974 and for a while stopped cooking, but spent time writing cookbooks.

In his books, Pepin gives interesting advice and reveals the secrets of French cuisine. One of his books, Technique (1976), is still a mainstay of French cuisine today, and the success it brought him prompted him to shoot a television version of his lessons.

The book Technique together with the book The Method, which he wrote a few years later, won him a place in the Culinary Hall of Fame of the James Beard Foundation.

Cooking is just one of Pepin's great passions - he can paint, he also does sculpture. He liked the impressionist artists Manet, Renoir, Monet, but he was most impressed by Picasso.

He works side by side with another famous chef - Julia Child, and their show won an Emmy Award. Child has repeatedly called the French chef the best chef in America. In 1997 he was awarded the Order of Arts and Literature in France, but the greatest recognition he received was the French Order of the Legion of Honor, which was awarded to him for outstanding services in 2004.

In 2008 he starred in the popular series Ugly Betty. Today, the chef is the rector for special programs at the French Culinary Institute, New York, and participates in the Department of Gastronomy at Boston University.

In addition, the French chef has a column in the magazine Food and Wine. What has won millions of fans is his ability to prepare even the most complex dishes so that even the most inexperienced person can understand.

Pepen, 79, believes that with a little technical knowledge, anyone can become a good cook. He believes that to be good at cooking, you really need to enjoy creating delicious dishes.

According to Pepin, the greatest reward a chef can receive is the pleasure he sees in delivering to people with his dishes.
