As of January 1, 2014, a European regulation enters into force, which prohibits the use of soy, preservatives and other additives in minced meat. The announcement came from the Bulgarian Association of Meat Processors.

According to the requirements of the European directive, minced meat will contain only pure boneless meat product, which will not contain improvers, preservatives, soy or other substances. Up to 1 percent salt will be allowed.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food reminds some not-so-correct Bulgarian producers that "minced meat" and "minced meat" are synonymous names for the same product. All the requirements for minced meat will apply in full force to the packaged minced meat.

A novelty is the requirement on the labels to explicitly mention that the product is not ready for consumption and must be subjected to heat treatment before eating.

The label remains required to contain detailed information on the fat content and the fat / protein ratio.

It is possible, if a certain manufacturer is willing to offer a fatter product, to do so, but before that to register its own brand that meets the other criteria.

Experts from the Bulgarian Association of Meat Processors specify that the European requirements will apply only to minced meat, but not to different types of meat preparations.

This means that the ban on soy and preservatives will not affect products such as meatballs and kebabs. They will continue to allow the use of various additives and spices, including soy, onions, enhancers, vitamins, etc.
