The price of honey will rise by between 50 stotinki and 1 lev per kilogram, announced the chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Beekeepers Mihail Mihailov to Darik Radio.

Usually the tendency is for the price to be high at the beginning and then to decrease. Now, however, I think the price will be higher. What is being circulated - a jump of about 50%, I think will be true, says the expert.

As a reason for the rise in the price of native honey, beekeepers pointed to the severe winter, which led to high bee mortality. Yields were lower and therefore the price should rise.

Mihailov added that the last year has been among the weakest for the industry and they are trying to recover their losses.

Traders and processors have also announced plans to raise the price of honey. At the moment, rapeseed and acacia honey can be found cheaper, but with the new extraction it is expected that herbal and sunflower honey will be sold more expensively.

Flour is expected to have lower imports of honey from Ukraine and China this year as well, which is another reason for the increase in the purchase price of Bulgarian honey.

The prices of bio-honey will be higher than those of the conventional one, as for one jar of bioacacia honey, for example, we will have to pay between BGN 9-10, and the ordinary one will be around BGN 7.

The cheapest will be rapeseed honey, which will sell for about 4 levs.

Experts advise not to buy honey below this price, as it is probably fake.
