An American study found that people gain more weight when they eat in the company of greedy friends.

Experts have found that we tend to eat unhealthily when people around us often consume such food.

The same rule applies if we find ourselves in the company of vegetarians or people who watch what they eat.

The results of the study showed that people who never order salads before the main course do so when there are supporters of healthy eating around them.

The reflex of people to follow the example of others is also observed when the majority orders expensive and exquisite dishes.

The most interesting thing, however, is that the diner feels more comfortable and likes the ordered dish more when he shows "solidarity" with the others.

The study's lead author, Dr. Brena Ellison of the University of Illinois, said it examined the eating habits of people who did not eat at home.

Dr. Ellison is adamant that the company we eat with undeniably affects our weight.

Her team researched the eating habits and menus of restaurants in Stillwater, Oklahoma for three months.

A recent study found that being overweight is one of the most serious social and medical problems of the 21st century.

On the occasion of World Obesity Day, the chairman of the Bulgarian Association for the Study of Obesity - Associate Professor Svetoslav Handjiev, said that obesity is a global pandemic that leads to increased morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

This trend is growing among children, as recent studies show that Bulgarian children are ranked sixth at risk for obesity.

To deal with this problem, a project has been launched at the Medical University in Sofia, which recruits overweight and at risk of diabetes, and for a period of three years will be subjected to free medical supervision.
