Most of us strive to lead a healthy lifestyle by consuming a balanced and nutritious diet. Tahini is a treasure from the Orient, a product that must be present in our menu. This food is rich in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, and its taste makes us dream of long journeys and unknown experiences.
The Orient has always been full of exoticism and mystery. It is the cradle of ancient civilizations and great peoples and abounds in exotic spices, olive oil, cinnamon and various nuts.
Baklava, halva, falafel, and sesame tahini shape the face of traditional oriental cuisine, but do not fit into the field of healthy foods at all, but they are terribly delicious, right?
The word tahini comes from the Arabic "tahini" and "tahini" in Hebrew. Tahini (tahini - from Arabic, tahini - from Hebrew). Tahini is a food obtained mainly by grinding sesame seeds, but can also be obtained from sunflower seeds, walnuts and others. It is a main ingredient in a number of oriental and Asian dishes.
Sesame tahini exists in two varieties.
- From peeled sesame seeds (also called white tahini), which is light and has a pleasant taste;
- From unpeeled sesame seeds (also called natural), which is usually darker in color and slightly bitter in taste. On the other hand, it is far richer in nutrients and minerals, which are concentrated in its shell.
Tahini is very easy to make. Most people buy it straight from grocery stores without thinking that they can make it at home. And as we all know - homemade is always tastier and healthier. All you need are sesame seeds (walnuts, sunflower seeds or whatever seeds you prefer) and olive oil.
Preparation for 2 heaps of tahini:
- 2 cups of sesame seeds;
- 1/3 cup olive oil;
Roast the seeds like a hot pan over medium heat and add the sesame seeds (or other seeds) for about 2 minutes. Stir them constantly and once they turn brown, they are ready. Be careful not to burn them! Transfer them to another container and wait until they cool. Then mix the seeds with olive oil in the mixer and mash until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Then place in the refrigerator to cool.
Sunflower tahini is less popular - it is cheaper, darker in color and heavier in taste than sesame. It is prepared in an identical way, but the taste is far different. However, it is a matter of preference. Enjoy!
