The history of the fragrant winter drink is not completely clear. It is still unknown who first decided to heat wine and then add aromatic spices. Much more is known about other popular alcoholic hot drinks such as punch and grog, but one thing is clear - gluvine is much older than them.

Grog is a tea with rum, lemon and sugar, and first appeared in the mid-18th century. The punch, on the other hand, is an Indian idea that British settlers liked very much. After transporting it to their native Britain, they added tea to the usual ingredients (rum, citrus juice, wine, cinnamon, sugar and cloves).

Making mulled wine is not a complicated process in itself, but there are some subtleties that are good to know. First of all, it should be noted that both red and white wine can be used, but red is preferable. Instead, you can mix white and red wine. The type of wine does not matter much, but do not choose too sour wines.

Fans of stronger alcoholic beverages need to know that when the wine is heated, part of the alcohol in it evaporates, so you can add a little rum, brandy or brandy, which restores some of the alcohol content.

When you start making gluvain, do not let the wine boil, because this will not affect the taste of the drink. Pour the wine into a saucepan and place on a low heat.

Once the wine has warmed up, start stirring until the ingredients release their aromas. Gluvine is poured with a small ladle into thick porcelain cups, and it is good to strain.

We will also offer you a specific recipe for gluvine, the necessary products for which are 1 bottle of red wine of your choice, 100 ml of cognac, 10 g of cloves, 5 g of cinnamon, 100 g of sugar, lemon, about 60 ml of water, cloves.

Pour the wine into a saucepan, mix it with water, sugar, cinnamon and cloves, heat gradually, then strain and add the cognac. Pour into suitable glasses, garnish with a slice of lemon and serve immediately.
