When you buy butter in the store, you would like to believe that you are buying a product made only from milk. However, unscrupulous producers sometimes add vegetable fats to the composition to reduce production costs, "forgetting" to inform about it on the label and not mentioning that this "oil" is not oil at all.
The addition of vegetable fats to butter is illegal. Cow's butter is a product with a milk fat content of over 80% and water below 16%, produced from whole milk without vegetable additives. Foods called cow's butter, but containing palm and other vegetable oils, are fake.
The use of butter has a beneficial effect on vision, skin condition and concentration. In addition, the oil provides more support to our central nervous system than the mass of special supplements.
Nutritionists say: you should eat twenty grams of butter every day.
Quality cow butter is rich in vitamins A, E, D, iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, copper, manganese and zinc. But in order for this particular dairy product to be on your table, you will have to carefully consider its choice, because the main thing about its usefulness is that it must be natural.
How to distinguish butter without vegetable fat?
The fact is that under the packaging of butter often hides a fake or even margarine. First of all, read the ingredients carefully: real butter is made only from cow's milk. If the composition includes vegetable fats, palm, peanut or coconut oil, as well as an ingredient called "milk fat substitute", it is not cow's oil, but its cheap analogue. Natural cow butter does not contain a list of different vegetable oils, as in margarine, but only milk or milk cream.
Do not buy an item with a dubiously low price. Natural milk butter it can't be cheap. Examine the packaging in detail and read the ingredients in the store. The highest quality product has 82.5%. If the seller cuts butter from a large piece, look at the cut. A good product has the same consistency, without stains or streaks. Shines slightly when cut.
How to check your purchase of butter at home
- Evaluate the organoleptic characteristics: appearance, color and taste. Natural cow butter it will be firm to the touch. Cow's butter will not stain the package when you open it. It also does not stick to it. The color of the natural oil is light yellow or yellow, with a delicate milky smell and creamy taste, without a hint of unpleasant tastes.
The real oil cannot smell through the package. It melts in the mouth without leaving a greasy coating on the tongue and palate.
- Leave the oil at room temperature: drops of moisture will appear on the fake;
- Heat in a pan: the real oil will immediately squeak, forming a light foam and spreading an appetizing aroma, while the palm oil will simply melt and spread;
- Put a piece in hot water: the dairy product will melt on the surface, turning into a heterogeneous translucent puddle, the margarine will lie in a thick, dense layer. If you then stir the water, the butter will dissolve and the margarine will simply disintegrate into small particles, leaving the water clear;
- Freeze the lump of butter for 3 hours. After freezing, the butter cannot be cut, it breaks off into pieces, while the palm oil is easily spread on the bread;
- Dip some of the product in vodka or alcohol: from the colorants contained in fake butter, it will acquire a yellowish or orange color.
