Another popular type is the so-called golden rum, which has a characteristic caramel color.

The highest quality drinks of this type are prepared in cauldrons and then stored for several years in oak barrels. Very famous is the so-called dark rum, which has matured even more than the golden one. It is made of molasses. As a rule, it is more fragrant than previous species. Exactly this kind rum is well known in cooking. Another type that definitely deserves attention is the spiced rum. It is produced in different shades. It is characterized by the fact that it contains many spices and therefore has a strong taste and aroma.

The rum is one of the legendary drinks with an old history. It is believed that it was first produced in the time of Christopher Columbus. Its roots are sought in the Caribbean. Columbus's crew brought sugar cane, which later proved to be an extremely important crop in the history of alcoholic beverages. Transferred sugar cane is growing successfully in the Canary Islands and its cultivation is becoming increasingly popular in the area.

It soon became clear that cane molasses could be used to make an amazing alcoholic beverage. Thus, in the second half of the seventeenth century, the iconic alcohol received its modern name. Of course, at that time the drink was known by other names. For example, the French knew it as rhum. The Spaniards adhered to the name ron. It is also called Kill Devil, which is partly associated with the unpleasant feeling that a person wakes up after drinking rum.

Some are looking for a connection between this name and the fact that the drink was considered by many to be healing. At that time, the people of the Caribbean relied on the consumption of rumwhen trying to combat some diseases typical of places with tropical climates. Sailors turned out to be among the most ardent fans of rum.

The main reason they loved the rum was that it could last much longer on board without spoiling. It also became clear that over time, its taste became even more tempting. The elixir spread a little less around the world. Initially, it was consumed in its pure form, but very soon people began to use it in punches, cocktails, cakes and more.

At most rum is produced in the Caribbean, and the larger ones even boast typical local alcohol. Rum is also prepared along the South American Demerara River. Smaller quantities of the drink are also prepared in Australia, Austria, Spain, New Zealand, Mexico, Fiji, Hawaii, the Philippines, Taiwan. Other rum-producing countries include Canada, the United States and Japan.

Alcohol of this type, which is made in Barbados, is relatively lighter and has a sweeter note than rum produced elsewhere. Cuba is proud of its rum, which has a strong taste. Haitian rum is double-distilled. They are stored for several years in oak barrels, as a result of which they acquire a unique taste and aroma. In Brazil, rum is made that is clear. Fresh sugar syrup is used to make them.

Benefits of rum

In the past, rum was thought to have many beneficial properties. It has anti-inflammatory and warming effect. The rum compress was a proven remedy for gout, rheumatism and radiculitis. Rum is an excellent helper in the fight against diseases of the respiratory system. For colds, sore throats, flu and bronchitis, take a small amount of rum, seasoned with honey and lemon juice. For burns or superficial wounds, rum is used in combination with herbal infusions.

As already mentioned, rum is used in folk medicine in the treatment of burns, superficial wounds and skin inflammations. For this purpose, a decoction of calendula and rum is prepared. You need a tablespoon of the herb. It is filled with 250 ml of boiling water. The infusion is left to stand and after it cools, it is filtered. To the resulting liquid is added a tablespoon of rum and stir. A compress is made from the decoction prepared in this way, which is applied to the affected area.

Rum in cooking

The rum is widely used in cooking, mainly using dark rum and gold. They give an irreplaceable taste and aroma to various cakes, cakes, pies, biscuits, candies, cupcakes, Easter cakes, creams, ice cream, jam, jams and all sorts of other sweets.
