The candies we see all around us in the shops every day are high in sugar, artificial colors and fructose corn syrup. However, children love them infinitely and that is why we can resort to a trick and make fruit jelly candies at home. Do you believe that it is possible to make healthy jelly candies? The answer is yes! This is entirely possible.
Homemade candies contain real fruits with all the vitamins and minerals.
The gelatin in them is rich in dietary collagen and protein. It has anti-inflammatory action, improves digestion and makes skin, hair and nails healthy. Always prefer good quality gelatin.
We offer you different recipes for healthy jelly candies:
Jelly candies with honey
Necessary products: 3 tsp freshly squeezed fruit juice, 8 tsp. pure gelatin, 7 tbsp. natural honey, 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Method of preparation: Pour the juice into a saucepan and sprinkle the gelatin on top. Leave to stand until the gelatin dissolves. Then beat well with a wire. This way the ingredients will mix perfectly. Then place the pan on a medium heat. Wait for the liquid to heat up, being careful not to boil. The liquid will change from very thick to liquid and thin. The whole amount of gelatin must dissolve well. You can check by dipping your finger in the liquid.
If the mixture is smooth, it means it is ready. In case it is in granules, leave it on the hob. When the gelatin is completely dissolved and the liquid is smooth, add the honey and vanilla extract and beat again very well with a wire. You can pour the finished mixture into silicone baking tins or in a pan. Refrigerate for 3 hours or more.
It is important to tighten the liquid. Then take the candies out of the tins and put them in a jar that closes very well. If you have poured the liquid into a pan, you can cut it into different shapes once it has hardened. Put back in the jar and store in the refrigerator for about 10 days. The candies are not as long-lasting as the ones bought from the store, but they are healthy and very tasty.
Jelly lemon candies
Necessary products: 2 1/2 tbsp gelatin, 2 tsp. sugar (if you want them to be sweeter, add more sugar) + more for rolling, 1 tsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice
Method of preparation: Put gelatin in a bowl and pour it with a quarter cup of cold water. Allow to swell for 5 minutes. Put a saucepan on a medium heat and mix the sugar with half a teaspoon of water. Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves.
Then stop stirring and bring the water to a boil. Using a brush dipped in water, remove the sides of the pan so that the sugar does not crystallize on the walls. Remove the pan from the heat and add the swollen gelatin and lemon juice.
Mix all the ingredients well and pour them into a pan measuring approximately 20 cm by 20 cm. Cover with plastic wrap and leave for 4 hours in the refrigerator to set well. Then turn the pan over on a clean board and with a knife dipped in hot water, cut into different shapes. Roll each piece in sugar. About 30-40 candies are obtained
How to make different colors?
Red or pink color can be achieved with red beets, strawberries, carrots and a little lemon juice.
Yellow color can be obtained from yellow pears, yellow apples and a little lemon juice.
Purple color we get from red cabbage, blackberries, blueberries, a little red beets and an apple (black grapes are also suitable).
We get green dye from kiwi, cucumber, green apples and lime.
We get orange color from carrots, oranges, ginger and a little mango juice.
Pineapple is not suitable for such recipes because the substances in it prevent the gelatin from tightening. Grapes are also not suitable for making jelly candies.
