However, it is said that one of the bartenders considered the discoverer of Pine colada, Ramon Monchito Marero Perez decided to add to the recipe for the cocktail and coconut milk. A record in Puerto Rico shows that the first Pinya Colada was served in the bar of a local hotel in the summer of 1952. According to acquaintances, the bartender mixed up the iconic drink after his boss asked him to create a new cocktail to impress the sophisticated visitors of the hotel.

Perez took his boss's order to heart and embarked on the invention of the magic cocktail. For several months he researched various combinations, until finally the drink with a unique taste and aroma appeared. His paternity was disputed by Ricardo Garcia, who also worked in the Caribbean. The other contender is called Ramon Portas Mingot. According to him, it was he who mixed the famous drink in 1963 in the local restaurant Barrachina. The restaurant continues to function today and is famous for Mingot's statement.

This is the reason why it has become a national drink of Puerto Rico, and also the country celebrates the National Day of Pinya Colada. As a rule, it is celebrated every year on July 10 with plenty of cocktails and lots of fun.
