In the watermelon season, our watermelon is just a myth. The Bulgarian market is flooded with watermelons from Turkey and Greece, people in the industry comment.
There are no Bulgarian watermelons this year. This was stated by the chairman of the Association of Vegetable Producers in Burgas Nikolay Nedyalkov to Radio Focus.
As you know, watermelons and melons are sown in the spring around rivers, on alluvial alluvial-meadow soils. It is there that such crops become delicious, Nedyalkov recalled.
According to him, however, this spring the usual areas for growing watermelons were flooded and very few watermelons were planted in the higher places. At the same time, on land, watermelon crops could not grow well.
According to the chairman of the Association of Vegetable Growers, watermelons, which can be found in retail outlets in the city, are imported from our southern neighbor Greece, regardless of the fact that the label indicates Bulgarian production.
It also turns out that the usual domestic producers of watermelons in our country such as Lyubimets, Harmanli, Haskovo and Simeonovgrad this year do not have high production. However, our lovers can be found on the market, and it was even more difficult.
According to Nikolay Nedyalkov, where the production managed to escape, the watermelons have become juicy and sweet.
And while domestic consumers are wondering how to get quality Bulgarian watermelon, Bulgarian producers of the red delicious fruit are wondering how to protect their products from attacks by brazen thieves.
Vegetable growers saw themselves in a miracle after learning that nearly 1,500 kilograms of watermelons had been stolen from their fields in the village of Seltse, Dobrich region. The harvest, which is already a corner for the country, was picked between 6:30 pm on Tuesday and 6:50 am on Wednesday.
Police said the crime was committed with the help of a road vehicle. At the moment, the law enforcement agencies do not know who the perpetrator of the theft is. Pre-trial proceedings have been instituted in the case, and the work of forensic scientists will continue.
