During a pandemic of infectious diseases, hygiene is extremely important. How much can it help us and at what level does it need to be implemented?

The advice of all specialists is to reach the maximum degree of hygiene.

This means complete disinfection of everything we have direct contact with, because the coronavirus that is currently circulating is an acute infectious disease that is transmitted not only by airborne droplets, but also by contact with infected surfaces.

The virus lasts on different surfaces for a certain period and outside the human body.

The time in which it lives depends on the nature of the surface, the material from which it is made, and is also influenced by climatic factors such as temperature and humidity.

It lasts the longest on metal surfaces, and there are too many of them in our environment.

Externally, control is usually focused on disinfecting the hands after any contact with any surface and trying not to touch the face, mouth or eyes, because these are the places through which the virus enters the body.

Self-control on the street is easier because one is usually tighter when outside. At home, however, we relax and become more distracted, and our minds and senses are not as sharp as outside.

Since we need to relax and be calm, we need to make sure our home is kept clean.

However, there is a significant risk in one of the rooms, this is the kitchen, where we make daily purchases.

Therefore food disinfection and desktops should be an essential part of home hygiene care.

All surfaces with which we come into contact for more than 1 minute must be regularly cleaned.

When cleaning, the detergents should stay longer than we are used to. Wiping should be done with disposable means, preferably kitchen paper, not a sponge, experts advise.

To make our work easier, it is good to use only one of the countertops on which the purchases are left, and not randomly selected. After washing with warm soapy water, they must be repackaged.

The cutting boards must be separated. The same board should not be used for heat-treated products and raw.

After each product, the board should be washed to prevent the transfer of microorganisms and bacteria.

Personal hygiene should start with the fact that the clothes you go out with should be changed as soon as you get home. It is good for them to stand in a separate room or on a hanger in the hallway next to the front door.

All fruits are recommended to soak for at least 2-3 hours in cold water, after which the useful citrus and apples should be washed with a sponge with detergent.

Vegetables should also be soaked in cold water for 2-3 hours, mixed with a little vinegar. Vinegar is a good disinfectant for fruits and vegetables because it has strong antioxidant properties.

Disinfection of the kitchen and the food continues with the leafy vegetables, which must also be soaked in water and then washed under a strong stream.

Eggs are washed well with chlorine solution or other similar preparation.

Packaged products should also be disinfected on the outside before being stored in cupboards with other kitchen utensils and products.

Good hygiene at home will allow all family members to feel comfortable and at least at home.
