The most famous and largest beer festival Oktoberfest, which started on September 20 in Munich and ended yesterday, once again gathered fans of cold beer. This year, the event was attended by about 6.3 million people, who consumed nearly 6.5 million beers, according to world news agencies.
Unfortunately, this year we failed to break the records, but still the figures remain high, commented the organizers of the iconic festival. According to them, the reason for the lower attendance during the first days of the event was the bad weather conditions.
Oktoberfest set a remarkable record in 1985. He then collected 7.1 million beer drinkers who drank just as many liters of beer. Last year, 6.4 million people attended the festival. During the event, 7,900 people sought medical help from the Bavarian Red Cross because they felt they were not feeling well.
A total of 600 drinkers have left Oktoberfest, as excessive beer consumption has led to alcohol poisoning. There were even minors among them. During the festival, the local law enforcement agencies also sweated. Police had to arrest 720 aggressive drinkers.
It seems that most of the visitors of the famous festival look at the beer mugs in which the beer is served as a great souvenir. It turns out that it is a common practice among guests to collect their mugs to take home. During this year's edition of Oktoberfest, as many as 112,000 mugs were raised, while last year "barely" 81,000 were exported.
This year there was a change in the price of beer. A mug of cold beer was offered at a price between 9.70 to 10.10 euros, while last year the value reached 9.85 euros. The rise in the price of beer has caused many to joke that this can be attributed to the traditions of the beer event.
Oktoberfest is a festival with a rich history. Its first edition took place in mid-October in the distant 1810. Then the holiday was in honor of the wedding of Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Theresa. Then it was decided to repeat the event and so it became a tradition.
