A rare tuna has been found off the coast of Cornwall by five young kayakers. It is estimated to be worth around one million pounds. The dead fish was found in the shallows and was brought ashore with the help of locals.

The length is 2.2 meters. Fish of the same species were caught some time ago, but were much smaller than the specimen found now. Then this fish was sold for about half a million pounds at auction. This means that the current copy would cost about 1 million pounds, experts say.

However, fish found by kayakers will not be sold because hunting and selling the rare bluefin tuna has been banned in Britain. The young kayakers took many pictures with her, and then the fish was handed over to scientists at the University of Exeter to be studied.

This type of fish is considered a delicacy, but in the 70s it was forbidden to catch on the island. The reason is that the population has greatly decreased and experts have found that the fish is on the verge of extinction. Many Western countries are hoping to introduce a total ban on the bluefin tuna trade.

Fish specialties are a favorite of many people - so far the Japanese were the nation that eats the most fish and is always at the top of such rankings. Their long-standing presence in the first place has been replaced and this year the leading position is taken by the people of Malaysia.

It turns out that in one year Malaysians eat 56.5 kilograms of fish per person. The Japanese remain in second place with 55.7 kilograms. And although they have lost the gold medal in the rankings, the amount of fish that the Japanese eat remains well above the world average.

One person consumes an average of about twenty kilograms of fish and fish products per year. The ranking was made by the organization Infofish. According to the data, a Malaysian family spends about $ 35 a month on fish.

Seafood is a dominant product on the table of Malaysians, who until just a few years ago consumed more chicken.
