The first man of art to influence the diet of many of his admirers was Lord George Gordon Byron. The world-famous romantic poet, who created in the nineteenth century, was the creator of the first "star" diet.
He was prone to gaining weight, which saddened him. The poet struggled with excess weight with the help of swimming and boxing, ate potatoes, drenched in vinegar and always wore a few woolen clothes on top of each other.
This helped him sweat a lot, from which he lost a few pounds, but during the warm months this clothing was a real torture for the artist.
However, his efforts were not in vain, although his diet caused serious damage to his body. In 1806, Byron weighed 88 kilograms, but in 1811 he lost so much weight that he already weighed 57 kilograms.
The poet regularly weighed himself in a company that sold wine. He weighed himself there more than forty times. To lose weight, the poet ate breakfast with a thin slice of bread and a cup of tea.
At lunch he ate salad and drank water diluted with wine. His dinner consisted only of tea. The poet was in serious discomfort, but it was important for him to be very weak.
In 1822, due to the constant diets he underwent, Byron began to face serious health problems. Moreover, the poet smoked a lot of cigars to suppress his hunger.
His example was followed by many of his admirers, who watered their potatoes and rice with a lot of vinegar to make them as weak and pale as the heroines of Byron's poems.
This led to serious health problems. Byron himself was convinced that a man should not see a woman eat unless he drank champagne and ate lobster, because according to the poet only they were truly feminine.
