You know how an apple darkens after it is cut - although it has darkened, the apple is perfectly edible, but it no longer looks so appetizing and we don't reach for it. Specialists have found a way for the fruit to remain the same color even after contact with oxygen.
They claim that no chemicals were used for the new discovery. Scientists from the Canadian biotechnology company Okanagan Specialty Fruits created the new apple variety using biotechnology, but did not use foreign genes.
Experts explain what they did in a very easy way - they compare the genetic composition of the apple with a railway. They claim that what they have done is to change one rail with another, but on the same track.
The first apples to be improved were the Arctic Golden and Arctic Granny varieties. These fruits are not yet on the market, but there are hopes that everyone will be able to buy them in 2015. At least that's what Neil Carter, president of the Canadian biotechnology company Okanagan Specialty Fruits, promises.
Scientists hope their new discovery will be beneficial - it is believed that thanks to the new varieties of apples, growers will have significantly less fruit loss, and profits will increase accordingly.
The Canadian company is in fact a partner of the government departments responsible for agriculture and the food industry in Canada.
Their common goal is to improve different varieties of fruits - cherries, pears, nectarines, peaches, apricots and more. In this way they will become resistant to various diseases.
In fact, biotechnology, which prevents apples from browning, is not the first thing the company is working on and developing. As early as 1999, Canadian experts made improvements to the papaya variety Rainbow.
The goal then was for scientists to be able to deal with certain types of viruses, which actually saved the production of this type of fruit in Hawaii.
Another fruit has been immunized against the measles virus and was approved for planting in 2004 - the Honeysweet plum. Experts are adamant that the new type of apples will be able to be produced both in the north and in the south.

They Place GMO Apples On The Market That Do Not Darken
We have all seen fruits and vegetables such as apples, potatoes and many others darken when cut. The reason for this is a chemical process known as oxidation. The result is enzymes and free radicals that change the chemical structure of food molecules, making it less attractive.

The Food Agency Does Not Recognize Oil Samples, It Tests New Ones
The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) refuses to recognize the results of the breakdown of the native oil, although they were tested in its laboratory. We remind you that a few days ago the Active Consumers Association reported that out of ten studied Bulgarian brands of oil, four have a high content of non-milk fats (palm oil) and water, which, however, are not reflected in their labels.
