As Easter approaches and we are all excited about the price of lamb in stores and of course - from the origin, we will pay more attention to the topic.
Days before Easter the shops are full of Lamb meat and there are signs everywhere with Bulgarian lamb or fresh lamb. Of course, as consumers, we all doubt these labels, because we often come across one label and the true origin later turns out to be different.
Don't trust ads and words from sellers who claim to be selling Bulgarian lamb for Easter, trust your knowledge, your senses and your eyes.
The most important thing to know is the stamps on the meat and look for the correct seal to make sure what meat you are buying and what you will eat. If the lamb you buy has a red stamp, it means that the meat is from a foreign country. If the seal is blue, it means that this meat is Bulgarian!
So, if you want to eat Bulgarian lamb this holiday, buy meat with a blue stamp on it.
We should also talk about the price of lamb. Lamb has always been expensive. Many people buy live lambs for the holidays, which is the surest way to know what you are eating. If you have chosen this option, there the price is determined according to live weight - about 6-8 levs per kilogram.
However, if you have decided to buy a lamb from the local supermarkets, then the price depends on whether you will buy a whole lamb, which is the most profitable - the price varies around BGN 12-13 per kilogram. Whether you buy half or a quarter of a lamb, the price goes up there and a kilo will cost you about BGN 14. You can buy a whole lamb leg or a lamb shoulder, and their price per kilogram this Easter varies around BGN 13-14 as well.

The cheapest part of the meat that you can find is lamb ribs - their price is around BGN 10-11 per kilogram. And of course, since almost everyone likes to eat liver sarma, you need to know the price of the trifles that you will need to prepare it - a set of lamb trifles costs about 5-7 levs per kilogram.
Shop smart, cook delicious and happy holidays!
