There are many risk factors responsible for the increase in the number of obese people recently. Experts usually point to prolonged sitting in front of a computer, giving up sports, as well as increased consumption of harmful foods and drinks as the main culprits for overweight children.

However, it turns out that there is another reason for the child to start gaining weight. Taking antibiotics by children under the age of 2 can only increase the risk of obesity, according to a new study cited by AFP.

Because the causes of overweight are of a different nature, tackling it depends on identifying all the risk factors, says study leader Dr. Charles Bailey of Pediatrics in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

According to the specialist, the results show that taking medication before the age of 2 may be among these factors.

The researchers analyzed electronic medical data for more than 64,000 babies from birth to the age of 5 in the period 2001-2013.

It became clear that 69 percent of the kids took antibiotics 2.3 times before they were 2 years old. Cases of obesity were observed among 10 percent of 2-year-old children, 14 percent of 3-year-olds, and 15 percent of 4-year-olds.

The researchers also noted that 23 percent of 2-year-olds were overweight. It is also the enemy of 30 percent of 3-year-olds and 33 percent of 4-year-olds.

Experts have concluded that children treated four or more times with antibiotics before the age of 2 are at risk of obesity.

Being overweight is really dangerous for children, but it should not panic parents. They must approach the problem wisely and with understanding so that they can solve it together with their children. To this end, mothers and fathers should try to build useful habits in their children.

They should motivate them, but in the most appropriate way for the child's psyche. Discover new opportunities for your kids and never tell them that they are full, because this can further aggravate the situation, experts warn.
