The flesh is watery, slightly crunchy, with a pleasant sweet, balanced taste. Leaves a special taste. It is covered with a thin, elastic scale. Red wine is extracted from the fruits of the vines. The bunches are also suitable for direct consumption. If the Senzo vines grow in soil suitable for the variety, the harvest has a remarkable characteristic.

Senzo belongs to the varieties that are medium ripening. The harvest takes place in the first half of September. It grows most successfully on hilly terrain, which has light, fresh and warm soils. It has strong growth, increased fertility and relatively high yields.

Senzo is preferred by growers as it does not feed easily in drought. It is not affected by cold. Its weakness remains rot, from which it cannot get rid. For him, the rainy autumn can be problematic, when it is attacked not only by rot, but also by oidium. It is compatible with the vine rootstocks known among the native specialists.

History of Senzo

As we have already established, the homeland of Senzo is France. It is supposed to be an ancient variety whose roots should be sought in the southern parts of the country. However, it is possible that the variety was brought by traders from the Eastern Mediterranean. One thing is for sure though - Senzo quickly managed to spread to many other places. The wine is grown in Algeria, where it grows well because of its ability to withstand droughts.

The vines have managed to reach Australia, where the variety is called Black Prince and Oeillade. The variety is also distributed in Italy, USA, Morocco, South Africa. In some countries it is mixed with other varieties in the production of blended wines. Senzo is also found in Bulgaria. And if once it could be seen mainly in Vratsa, today it is grown in other places. However, the amount of arrays is still too small.
