Surprisingly for many, the most expensive cheese in the world is not an exquisite French delicacy, but cheese made from donkey's milk.
Donkey cheese has the trade name Pule and costs 1000 euros per kilogram. It is produced in a small dairy in the Zasavica Nature Reserve, Serbia.
The owner of the dairy is Slobodan Simic, who proudly talks about the process of making cheese from donkey's milk.

Slobodan Simic has closed the production cycle of donkey's milk. He owns a herd of 140 donkeys, but only a dozen of them are female and produce milk all year round.
The owner of the dairy shares that the production of cheese from donkey's milk is an expensive and labor-intensive process, which explains the high price of the cheese he offers.
For the production of only one kilogram of Pule cheese, about 25 liters of donkey's milk are needed, the price of which is about 30-40 euros per liter.
The finished product has a snow-white color, is crumbly and tastes and structure is close to fresh types of manchego (special cheese produced in the La Mancha region, Spain).
Donkey cheese is very low in fat. The cheese, made in Serbia, is available in miniature lumps the size of coffee capsules.
Despite its salty price, it is quite popular with gourmet restaurants, where it is offered at space prices.
