Purchase prices of fresh milk have fallen by up to 30 stotinki per liter. The sector is suffering heavy losses, but the situation is expected to stabilize in August and milk prices to rise.

This was announced by the Center for Economic Analysis of Agriculture (SARA), which added that every year during the summer months, milk producers have losses due to more difficult feed procurement.

The crisis with the purchase prices of milk is best tolerated by sheep breeders, unlike cattle farmers, and the reason is that cattle require at least twice the cost compared to sheep, experts say.

In recent months, there has been a downward trend in raw milk production. The European Union is expected to take some measures to limit production and thus raise the purchase price of raw milk.

Over the past month, only the values of basic dairy products in the EU have remained stable. The largest increase was registered in oil, which rose by 9% on a monthly basis.

The world's largest milk producers, Australia and New Zealand, have also seen a decline in dairy production. This gives European producers hope that the prices of their goods will not fall further until the end of the summer.

USDA experts say that globally there is an increase in milk production, which in one year increased by 1.2% or 6.12 million tons more than in 2015.

Although European farmers produced 6% more milk between January and April compared to the same period last year, these figures are projected to fall by the end of 2016.
