Garganega / Garganega / is a white grape variety that gives pleasant white wines. These vines are extremely popular in Italy, where they have been grown for centuries. It is curious that at the end of the last century the plantations with Garganega occupy over 13,000 hectares. The largest massifs of the variety are grown within Umbria, Lombardy, Veneto, Sardinia and Puglia.

Garganega is also known by many other names. You can find varieties such as Garganega Biforcuta, Dorana di Venetia, Ora, Dorana di Venetia, Ostesa, Garganega Frastagliata, Garganega Bianca, Garganega Comune, Garganega di Gambellara, Garganega piramidale, Garganega Veronese, Ostesona, Garganega Grosso and others.

Garganega it is characterized by a green, medium-sized, oval leaf that is deeply incised, usually pentagonal. The lower surface of the leaf is covered with thick moss. The bunch is characterized by medium size and cylindrical-conical shape. The bunch is usually winged, with a medium density.

The grains of the Garganega variety are rather small, oval or slightly flattened. They are painted in light green and often have a pleasant sun tan. The skin is relatively tough, and the fleshy part, which is hidden under it, is watery, with a pleasant taste. The sugar content of the must amounts to 20 g / 100 cm3, with titratable acids 7-8 g / dm3.

The grapes are used for making selected white table and fortified wines, as well as for eating fresh. Grapes are often included in the popular Soave wine, which is made in the Veneto region.

The drink in question is a blended wine with a high content of the variety Garganega. If the grapes are left to raisin, they are used to make dessert wines such as Recioto, which has a great level of sweetness and delicate acidity.

Otherwise, Garganega is classified as a medium-ripening variety. The vines grow most successfully on fertile soils, but can also grow on poorer ones. They prefer moderate temperatures. When vineyards are planted on rich terrain, the vineyards give high yields, but the wines obtained from them seem to be left without a clear profile.

Characteristics of garganega

As already mentioned, the wines obtained from Garganega, are white table or reinforced. They are whitish or pale yellow in color. These grape elixirs are refreshing, delicate and fine. They have a wonderful structure and density.

When drunk, you can hear notes reminiscent of almonds, green plums, ripe pear, melon, honey, caramel, apricots and citrus fruits such as pineapple, orange, lemon and lime. Their captivating aroma is also characterized by fruity tones.

The presence of wine from Garganega at the table is an important event and therefore the wine should be served with due care. It must be refrigerated before serving. You usually need to stick to a temperature of 8-10 degrees.

However, these values are not always mandatory, so it is best to look at the label of the drink before the cooling, where the manufacturers have noted the optimal serving temperature.

Quality wine like this requires being poured into special glasses that will fully reveal its charm. If the wine is young, you can stop at a glass for young white wines, which is best suited for grape elixirs with distinctive fruity freshness.

Such a cup has the shape of a tulip. You will recognize it by the smoothly opening edge. When sipping, the drink falls on the tip of the tongue. If you do not have such a service, you can use a universal glass of white wine.
