Sushi stickswhich the whole world uses to enjoy exotic food are traditionally used for eating in Asia. While people in the Western world find it difficult to use them, or find it difficult at least the first few times, Asians have been eating them for more than 6,000 years.
The two equally large chopsticks are used to consume not only sushi but also many other Asian foods. Their origin is traced back to ancient times. Homeland of the cute chopsticks is China, from where they spread to Japan, Korea, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and many other places.
Sushi sticks are made mainly of bamboo. There are also such sticks, which are made of wood, plastic and stainless steel. As with our familiar forks and spoons, chopsticks in Asian cuisine are also produced in special collections made of silver, gold, ivory or porcelain.
Japanese sushi sticks are not used only for the consumption of this delicacy. In Japan, long sticks, between 30 and 40 cm, are used mainly for cooking and especially for frying. Those up to 23 cm long are used for feeding, and the length for women and children varies.
All sushi sticks and other foods are well sharpened at the end. This does not change either by the material from which they are made or by the size. The pointed end allows the pieces to grip more easily. So when you're served Japanese food, there's nothing wrong with trying chopsticks. As well as being fun, you show your respect for Japanese culture.
Traditionally, Japanese chopsticks are made mainly of wood or bamboo. In both cases they are lacquered and are relatively inexpensive. Therefore, with each sushi order, you receive a set of two sticks, which are connected at the end. The customer must separate them before consuming. This is a guarantee that they have not been used before.
Wooden bamboo sticks are much more convenient to eat than plastic, for example. The reason is that they have much better traction and they are easier to handle food.
There are many different types of chopsticks. Some of them are subject to decoration and decoration. Decorated and lacquered chopsticks can be found in Japanese sushi shops. Especially when they are wooden, this insulates them and makes them reusable.
Wealthy families in Japan still use silver chopsticks. This practice comes from the belief that in contact with poison, silver darkens.
Metal rods are the rarest. There may be roughness on them. This makes the stick less slippery and allows the food to grip tightly.
