Coffee is a favorite drink of most of us. As with most of the commonly consumed drinks, we have heard hundreds of warnings about it that it can harm our health. However, a new study claims the opposite. According to US researchers at the University of Southern California, people who drink standard or decaffeinated coffee will live longer than those who give up the drink.
In a study involving more than a thousand volunteers, the researchers found that the drink has many more pros than cons.
People who drink a cup of coffee every day are twelve percent less likely to die early than those who do not drink coffee at all. The readings are even more encouraging for those who drink two to three cups of coffee every day. This further reduces the chances of early death by eighteen percent.
Coffee consumption has been found to be associated with a lower risk of death from heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer and kidney and respiratory diseases.
The health status of the study participants was monitored for 16 years. There were people of all ethnicities among the volunteers. African Americans, Japanese, Latinos, Europeans joined.
Such research is important because lifestyle and disease risks can vary greatly across racial and ethnic backgrounds, and findings in one group may not necessarily apply to others, said Dr. Patricia Lower, head of the research team that conducted the study.
Regardless of the racial focus of the study, its authors proved that the beneficial benefits of coffee are observed in different people. So, coffee lovers, you already have another reason to make and drink at least one cup of your favorite drink early in the morning, says Dr. Lower.
